Privacy Policy
Who we are
My website address is: https://www.jackswellbones.com/. I am maintaining this website by myself and I'm just one guy, but I am doing my best to keep it private and secure.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. You must be logged in to comment, so I assume you have some grasp on the information you are giving me. I have comments disabled everywhere that I can.
I currently don't have Avatars enabled, so your email address should not be provided to the Gravatar service. But just in case, the Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.
Media
I don't think you are able to upload Media to this website. However, if you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Embedded content from other websites
I have removed all embedded content from other websites, so your information should not be shared with any additional websites. I have disabled embedded content for the reasons below.
Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website. These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
My cookie policy below has more information on how data is shared (ie. I do my best to make sure it isn't). If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email. I don't know how to disable that. I do not sell or share any information (unless legally required in the latter case).
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username manually, they will have to contact me). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Our cookie information includes specific information about what plugins do with your data. This is mostly to store your settings, to prevent spam, and to prevent security breaches.
Cookies
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Website Plugins, Privacy, and their Cookies
For any of the plugins on this website, if they view, store, or collect personal information, I do not sell it or share it. I routinely run cookie checks to make sure no plugins have added any extra tracking information, but you can feel free to reach out if you notice anything skeevy yourself.
CookieYes sets this cookie to remember users' consent preferences so that their preferences are respected on their subsequent visits to this site. It does not collect or store any personal information of the site's visitors. This is the cookie banner that appears on the bottom of the page. You can contact me if you change your mind, but don't want to manually clear your cookies.
Any information you give to me using (SiteOrigin) Contact Forms goes directly to my e-mail, as expected. It does not create any cookies and it does not store the form information here on the website. I have disabled IP tracking as well. When the form goes to my email I only use it to address your message's content (e.g. a request). I do not automatically add you to a mailing list (even if you've signed up for the mailing list, you have the opportunity to unsubscribe) or store the information for any reason beyond contacting you regarding your message.
Wordfence views a user's IP so they can block any incoming attacks. It stores the IP when it blocks a user, and I can manually input IPs to whitelist. IPs do potentially detect a user's location. It does not create any cookies.
I do not use Google Analytics. I have no idea who visits my website, how many people visit my website, where they come from, or how regularly I get visitors. It's great.
I have removed any links or plugins that collect information for advertising purposes (cough Amazon). Again, if you see anything sketchy, please don't hesitate to contact me.
